Revelation 8 – One Beggar; One Hundred Souls

Revelation 8 One Beggar One Hundred Souls

I found myself in a place that was both a classroom and a functional government office—an environment that blended learning and official work. Suddenly, a beggar approached me, asking for a hundred naira. But then he said it in a way that seems unusual:

“Jesus asks you to give me a hundred.”

His choice of words made me look at him with suspicion—many use the name of Jesus to ask for money without true purpose—so I asked him carefully, “A hundred naira or a hundred souls?”

He replied, “Souls.”

At that moment, it struck me what I was truly being called to do. Then he proceeded to tell me a brief but powerful story about a man who had been given a similar task by Jesus Christ. Despite many warnings, the man failed to act, and it became too late—he perished.

Wait a minute, I thought, turning to myself, did he just tell me this story to warn me not-to-be that man?

a simple scene with two human figures—one, a humble beggar with bowed head and outstretched hand; the other, a reflective figure seated at a table or desk, symbolizing a learner or official.

What are the implications of Revelation 7?

  • The beggar is a divine messenger, sent to awaken the watchman of his calling. The beggarly appearance reveals one who is not out for showmanship, but is consumed by the urgency to fulfill his calling. Wasting no time on crowd appeal but doing the real work.
  • The classroom and office settings reveal how he must learn, teach and work simultaneouly—by studying to learn, sharing to teach, and working to avoid becoming a beggar who depends on others.
  • Classroom = Discipleship, teaching, inner instruction.
  • Office = Authority, execution, purpose.
  • The beggar’s speech sounded like another religious manipulation but with discernment, proved to a great revelation. Be patient enough to discern before judging. A brash response could have sent the messenger away and by an unkind response, many angels have been rejected.
  • One way to discern motive is to see how thirsty people are to take your money versus their hunger at catering to your soul. Jesus Christ and the heavenly Father did not call us to pursue money, and not to build charitable empires where material supplies are shared to people under the flashing eyes of cameras and pressmen. We are sent to call souls back to divine purpose and in doing this, treat the rich and poor the same way because in the end, every soul is equally worthy and loved by the heavenly Father.
  • The requested “hundred” symbolizes a first-fruit portion of not just quantity but of qualitative alignment with divine assignment. Not to gather a vain crowd but to build up a clan of watchman souls with specific names, appointed destinies, and divine timelines.
  • The beggar’s parable about a man who failed his own soul-assignment, is both a warning and a call-up to this watchman, because while there is grace, there’s also a clock and it is counting forward and against all who delay their mission.
  • The watchman is a shepherd who gathers souls, not a crowd-pleaser. He brings forward a breed of apostolic messengers who are trained in quiet places and launched from simple rooms.
